This course consists of 7 core units that form the basis of a Rail Worker Basic Skill Set. Rail operators consider this skill set to be a minimum requirement for anyone wanting to work within the rail corridor as a track worker. 

The units delivered in this program are: 

  • TLIE1003 Participate in basic workplace communication 
  • TLIF1001 Follow work health and safety procedures
  • TLIW2001 Operate under track protection rules
  • TLIF2010 Apply fatigue management strategies
  • TLID1001 Shift materials safely using manual handling methods
  • TLIB1028 Maintain and use hand tools
  • TLIU2008 Apply environmental procedures to rail infrastructure

Requirements for entry into this course include: 
  • completion of a Pre Training Review, which assesses language, literacy and numeracy skills required to undergo this course
  • understanding of the English language
  • access to a computer to complete the theory training and assessment
  • access to a reliable internet connection
  • ability to attend at a half-day Practical Assessment at Tuggerah NSW, Salisbury Qld, or Melbourne Vic on completion of the training
To achieve Competency in all seven units, students will be required to:

  • complete all components of the training materials within this online course, within a six month period, 
  • achieve 100% in the theory assessments for every lesson, 
  • attend a practical assessment session, at one of the Go Train Industry training facilities, to demonstrate competency in the performance requirements for all seven units. 

On completion of this online component, students will receive an Interim Certificate, which will need to be printed and taken to the practical assessment. When the practical assessment is successfully completed, a Statement of Attainment for all seven units will be awarded. 

If desired, these units can be used toward a Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure with further study and work placement.
